James Barclay, head of Panasonic Jaguar Racing, feels the British manufacturer will be able to achieve "wonderful things" with Sam Bird joining Mitch Evans for Season 7 of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship.
The first half of the 2019/20 Formula E campaign looked promising for Jaguar, with Mitch Evans striding to a dominant victory in Mexico City to add to Julius Baer Pole Position and a podium in Santiago, Chile. This left the Kiwi in second place in the Drivers' Championship after Marrakesh, and before the enforced mid-season break.
This promise would go unfulfilled, however, as upon Formula E's return for the nine-day six-race season finale at Berlin's Tempelhof Airport Circuit, Jaguar had seemingly lost ground on those around them. Evans opened with a head-scratching 13th place finish, and managed a best of seventh between Round 6 and the end of the season - leaving him seventh in the Drivers' running and 87 points from the summit.
Team-mate James Calado, and his stand in for the final couple of races Tom Blomqvist, were unable to tally points.
With Sam Bird's arrival from Envision Virgin Racing for Season 7 adding just about as much Formula E experience as you're going to get in a driver - the Brit having been a part of the series since the very first race - team boss James Barclay is confident of pushing on a step further in 2021.
"We're very excited Sam's joining the team. He is someone who has shown his stuff in each and every season of Formula E to-date and has consistently been fighting for podiums and race wins," said Barclay.
"The partnership of Mitch and Sam is incredible. Sam offers something that every team would want, and he's incredibly hungry. I think with our driver pairing, we'll achieve wonderful things together."
Evans is also enthusiastic about Bird joining the fold. Nine wins and 19 podiums in his Formula E career speaks for itself, reckons the New Zealander.
"I've known Sam for years," said Evans. "I raced with him in GP2 back in 2013 and obviously here throughout my time in Formula E so far. He's one of the drivers who just has to be in the championship. He's been very successful here and I'm certain he will be a massive contributor to the team.
"It's the last piece of the puzzle for us to level up our efforts. I'm excited for him to be with us and I'm sure we'll work well together and complement each other nicely."
