Re-live this historic moment in motorsport with the first-ever race for the ABB FIA Formula E Championship from the 2014 Beijing E-Prix.
The first-ever race was an action-packed encounter that featured a dramatic last-corner collision between leaders Nicolas Prost and Nick Heidfeld. This allowed Lucas di Grassi to score a historic win for Audi Sport ABT in the all-electric street racing series.
The inaugural race will forever be remembered for Heidfeld's spectacular crash, which the German was thankfully able to walk away from unscathed.
Prost was leading the race comfortably until a late charge brought Heidfeld right up to the Frenchman's tail. On the penultimate lap through the last chicane, Heidfeld closed in and made a faint to the inside of the final corner. A lap later, he did the same again, but this was no feint…
However, as he made his move Prost shifted to the left to cover the apex. It was way too late and the cars made contact. This sent Heidfeld spinning, which turned into a huge accident as he was launched over the kerbs and sent flying into barriers. Fortunately, both drivers were unhurt, but it left di Grassi the winner and Montagny and Bird filling the podium places after Daniel Abt was penalised for having exceeded the amount of allotted battery energy.
After 13 September 2014, Formula E and all-electric street racing had well and truly arrived on the motorsport scene.
